A police department in Somerset County won't have to rent space for much longer.

The Windber Police Department is in the process of buying the building that they're currently renting.

There will be a $92,000 grant for technology equipment and upgrades and a $100,000 grant for the new building.

A grant will also be going towards hiring a new full-time officer.

An additional $100,000 is coming from a private trust for the building.

Officials say it's a great benefit that the department no longer has to rent the building.

Two new officers will begin work on June 1st.

One is replacing an officer who resigned while the other is being paid for by the grant.

Windber police has a total of 14 officers in the department.
