Police investigating fatal car vs. pedestrian accident in Johnstown

Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees has identified the victim of Friday night's fatal crash on Maple Avenue.

Lees said the victim is 53-year-old Joan Schellhammer of East Conemaugh Borough.

According to Lees, Schellhammer was walking towards Rocky's Tavern when she was struck by a 2001 Chevy Cavalier.

Lees said Schellhammer was transported to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center but was pronounced dead just after 1 a.m.

Her cause of death was determined as a traumatic head injury due to blunt force trauma and her death is being ruled as accidental, and a toxicology report is pending.

One person has been confirmed dead after a car vs. pedestrian accident in Johnstown Friday evening, according to the Cambria County coroner's office.

While details are limited at this time, emergency officials say the call came in just before 11:30 p.m. on the 700 block of Maple Avenue.

Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees said the victim is a female and that an autopsy is scheduled for Saturday morning.
