The Mary S. Biesecker Library in Somerset has received a $222,394.76 Keystone grant to improve the building.

"The goal of this initiative is to increase the accessibility of the building," Morgan Simmons, IT and Facilities Coordinator

Simmons hopes that the grant will help fund the installation of an elevator. Currently the building is accessible to all from the lower level, but once inside the only way to get to the main floor is stairs. Workers currently assist those who aren't able to get to the main floor themselves.

"Having the elevator would allow people who do have mobility restrictions to be able to come up here and be able to browse and look at the book," Simmons.

Simmons said if the grant ends up not being enough to install an elevator that the library will continue to apply for other grants and raise money to make it happen.
