GJSD moving to full remote learning next week due to COVID-19 spread in Cambria County

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — Greater Johnstown School District will move to full remote learning next week after state officials recommended the same for all Cambria County schools due to the recent surge of COVID-19 cases, according to a release from Superintendent Amy Arcurio.

Cambria County has entered the second week of being classified as a county with “substantial transmission” of positive coronavirus cases.

Arcurio says the guidance comes from the Departments of Health and Education.

She says the GJSD Board of Directors has decided to move to full virtual learning starting Thursday and hope to return to in-person learning Dec. 1.

It’s unclear at this time if other school districts in the county plan to move to the full remote model.

According to the press release, state officials have continued to let the ultimate decision up to local LEAs when it comes to choosing the learning models that best fit their schools' situations.

Richland School District announced Thursday that students in grades 4-12 would move to a hybrid model next week due to the number of cases in Cambria County.
