The football quarterback was born on October 10, 1990, in Lakemont, Georgia, USA. He was born as the son of parents, Eugene Smith Jr. and Tracy Seller. He is the great-niece of Danny Smith, an American record-setting hurdler, and the cousin of Melvin Bratton, a star runner from Miami. Smith has not disclosed information about the number of his siblings but he is Geonte’s older brother.

Initially, he was admitted into the Norland Middle School magnet program. But he would go to Miramar High School to be coached by former Mountaineer Damon Cogdell. During that span, he has passed for 2,200 yards, 25 touchdowns and three interceptions and was named second All-State quarterback in his junior years. Then, in 2007, he was named to the All-Broward County Second Team as an athlete.

In his senior season, he completed 205 of 338 passes for 3,089 yards and 30 touchdowns to the 6A state semifinals. He then went on to win the All-State First Team title in Florida Class 6A and a Parade All-American.
