Driver charged with telling cop she was somebody else, but the height and age were way off
CLERMONT, Fla. (TND) — A driver caught speeding "immediately told me she does not have her driver's license on her,” a police officer said, “but stated that she would give me her name and date of birth."
The officer didn’t believe the driver and eventually arrested her for giving false information to a law enforcement officer, and more.
The traffic stop took place in Florida last Monday evening, April 29.
The arrest report said, “She informed me her name was ‘Vernessi Ingram,’ to which I had her spell for me.“She also told me that her date of birth was ‘02/03/1993.’“I went back to my vehicle and updated dispatch with this information.
“A short time later, dispatch informed me that they could not find anyone with that name and date of birth having a Florida driver's license in the system.”Then, when that didn’t work, “She informed me that I spelled the last name wrong, and the last letter should be an ‘N’ and not an ‘M’ (Ingran).“I spoke with dispatch about the new spelling of the last name which they once again informed me there was no associated Florida driver's license under that name.”
Inconsistent details followed.
“I asked her what the address was that was on her driver's license to which she told me she wasn't sure.
“I asked her if she actually had a driver's license and wasn't mistaking it for something else, and even confirmed that they took her picture, to which she said yes.
“She asked if they would be able to find it by a social security number, which I said yes.“She informed me at this point that her social security number was [redacted].”
Finally, authorities found “a valid driver's license,” but it wasn’t for the driver.
“I look at the associated picture ... and believed that was not the same person as the driver (Santana).”The arrest report said another officer who arrived to assist agreed.
It also said the person with the license had a listed height of 5”2, but the driver with the officer was 5’6” tall.
Finally, a corporal came to assist and questioned Santana Raquel Dean — her real name — “about different things, ranging from where she got issued her driver's license to her high school information.
“It was determined very quickly that she was not sure of these answers (which pertained to [the other person]) and she went to get on her cellphone to make a call.“Due to the uncertainty at the time of who she actually was and her avoidance by attempting to use her cellphone, she was placed in handcuffs and detained.”In the end, an officer asked one of the four passengers in the car and “who the driver was to her, at which point she stated it was her cousin.
“He then asked what her name was and after a slight hesitation, she stated [the other person’s name].“After a brief discussion, the passenger informed us her real name was ‘Santana Dean.’”It turned out, besides being four inches taller, Dean was also seven years younger than the other person, and had a Florida identification number.
Dispatch reported Dean never had a Florida driver's license but had a warrant for a probation violation in nearby Orange County, “and her current ID card number was suspended as of Oct. 9, 2019.”
Dean, 23, was charged with giving false information to a law enforcement officer and never having a driver’s license, plus violating her probation in Orange County for petit theft with two prior convictions.
She was also ticketed for speeding and not having a child restraint seat, since a passenger in the back was just three years old.
Online records from Lake County said Dean was arrested the night of Monday, April 29, and booked after midnight.
Then, it said she fulfilled her bond of $1,500 but was taken to the Orange County Jail, two days later.
She has not been released.
