Teen firefighter charged for starting multiple brush fires in Huntingdon Co.

Huntingdon Co., PA (WJAC) — Officials with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources' Bureau of Forestry have filed charges against a Huntingdon County teenager after he was accused of setting a series of brush fires earlier this year.

Authorities say Adam Ewing, 18, of Three Springs, is a member of the Three Springs Volunteer Fire Company.

Investigators say Ewing is alleged to have started a series of fires in the county in February and March, including one that injured three volunteer firefighters.

Authorities say Ewing reportedly was the first to respond to the fires and was the one who initially reported them.

Officials say a witness also allegedly observed Ewing in the area of one of the fires just before it started.

Investigators say evidence was also recovered from the fire scenes that showed that the suspect had started the fires using pieces of toilet paper, and that same "brand" of toilet paper was recovered from Ewing's home.

The list of fires that Ewing is accused of starting are as follows:

• Feb. 11th along Captain Jack's Road & in the area of Old Tannery Road
• Feb. 14th in the area of Hamman Road and Sugar Grove Road in Cromwell Township
• Feb. 23rd on Ski Slope Road in Clay Township
• Feb. 24th along Dublin Mills Road and Cromwell Road in Clay and Springfield Townships
• March 16th in the area of Uttley Street in Saltillo Borough

According to online court records, Ewing faces dozens of counts of charges related to risking and causing catastrophe, as well as maliciously setting/causing a fire.

He is being held at the Huntingdon County Jail on $500,000 bail.
