Central Cambria school board presents options for consolidation

Publish date: 2024-09-28

The Central Cambria school board is weighing its options on how to proceed regarding a possible consolidation.

A feasibility study was made available to the public Monday evening, highlighting the district’s options moving forward.

The school board says option 1 is to continue to operate both elementary schools at status quo, which officials say would require a tax increase through 2026.

Option 2 would include integrating grades 3rd through 5th at Cambria Elementary, which the feasibility study found would save the district just shy of $500,000 in the first year alone and would come with a smaller tax increase than option 1.

Superintendent Jason Moore says he understands the possibility of closing Jackson Elementary is upsetting but says the district is looking at the bigger picture.

"We are the Central Cambria school district. We're not the Cambria Township school district, or the Jackson Township school district. We care for and educate all the students, no matter where they're from."

A public comment meeting will be held on April 29th for residents to give their input on the plans.
